Eating lunch at Rochelle Canteen is strictly for those in the know or those with in the know friends. Entry into the restaurant is granted by buzzing an unmarked door nestled in the walls of an old Victorian school situated on Arnold Circus in Shoreditch.
Stepping through the door, you’ll likely experience a flashback to your school days as you stand there on the grassy playground. The path will lead you towards the bike shed, now converted into the airy, bright Rochelle Canteen – an incredible restaurant serving up hearty yet gourmet British lunches to in-the-know outsiders and the lucky creative studios that occupy the old school grounds.
Alas, Rochelle Canteen is just that, a canteen purposefully built to serve lunches to Monday-to-Friday workers, meaning we won’t get to enjoy weekend lunch jaunts with friends and family. It is however, worthy of a day off to experience.
Best Bit: If the sun’s out, so are the tables and chairs so guest to enjoy the food with a peaceful seat in the sun.
